The Housing Network

The "Shiluv Workshop" housing network is a "home for life" framework for people with special needs who are integrated into community life and enjoy living in a diverse, healthy, vibrant population for over ten years.
We believe that every person, regardless of their limitations, can contribute, give back and be part of the community.
The housing network is home to about 60 residents, young men and women aged 18 and over, with varying levels of functioning and with a variety of disabilities. Eleven apartments are in G’Vaot, and nearby communities host apartments for higher-functioning residents.
The apartments are enveloped by a unique supportive community of more than fifty families who have chosen to be part of "Shiluv" (inclusion) and who ensure the disabled residents disabled are perceived as equal members of the community. The residents of the workshop are fully integrated into the community. Each is assigned an adoptive family who host the resident each week. The residents have various positions tailored to them in their respective community institutions, such as the synagogue or the local library. They live near the families of the community as neighbors and fully participate in the ceremonies, events, and community experiences – from the Independence Day ceremony to the local trip, and musical events.
In the housing network emphasis is placed on a personally tailored work plans that are built especially for each resident according to his needs and level of functioning. The programs focus on several aspects: daily functioning, life skills, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, physical fitness, and personal empowerment. In the afternoons, the residents enjoy a selection of classes and leisure programs.
The housing network works in full cooperation with the employment system and the school that operate during the day, and with complete contact and cooperation with the parents. These collaborations enable the inclusive promotion of each resident.
A dedicated and extensive team including apartment coordinators and counselors, a paramedical team, a professional health system, a coordinator of personal programs, promotion and leisure, service girls, technical staff, housemothers, and more are actively involved in the running the housing network.
Our guiding principle is that a person is not only defined by his needs but also by his ability to contribute and give. This tenet is emphasized daily in the residents' daily routine in learning, social activities, work, and the apartment. There is no doubt that this approach brings about significant change and constant progress.
The housing network operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Services.
