Sadnat Shiluv
Inclusive Special Education School
The educational focus in the school is based on the principle that every person has abilities and skills and that everyone can use these abilities to contribute to his environment. Each student is assigned a personal work plan which is designed to help him/her achieve emotional-behavioral, educational, and functional goals.
The school is multi-stage – elementary, middle school and high school – and has about eighty-five students from Gush Etzion and the region.
All students are referred to the Sadna by their municipal authority after an evaluation and placement committee has determined that the student is eligible for inclusive special education. The school includes students with behavioral-emotional difficulties, students diagnosed with ASD, students with mental disorders and students with intellectual developmental disabilities.
The school is in a rural area that fosters a connection to nature and movement, and includes a diverse livestock farm, including a stable, a petting zoo, a dog kennel, a goat pen, and vegetable garden
The school operates a professional pedagogical system to develop and realize the learning potential of each student. The teaching staff writes the curriculum and develops unique teaching methods that are adapted to the different educational levels of the students. Additionally, any student who needs its receives a paramedical support package. The school places significant importance on physical activity and movement. Work is divided into two categories: Sports and physical activities such as: cycling, running, basketball and football teams, gyms, and physical activity. The second category includes various branches of art and agricultural work. We see these areas as an essential part of daily schedules. Physical activity and encounter with nature and animals have a healing value, which affords the students the opportunity to discover skills and enrich their inner selves.
In addition, the students acquire skills such as acceptance of responsibility, and fulfillment of instructions. The creation of ceramics, braided baskets, carpentry work, picking organic vegetables in the vegetable garden, producing cheeses in the dairy, building agricultural terraces and stone benches make the students part of a productive society. The students can then transition from being in a position of constantly being dependent to a position of being able to give back to the environment around them. This is an exact process, built from personal programs that are challenging and demanding, but yield progress and success.
